What You Need to Know About Tooth Abscesses

Posted .

Did you know that you should consider visiting your doctor if you think you have an infection? While you probably did, would you be surprised to know that you should visit our team if you think you have an infection in your teeth? In reality, it’s very important that you visit us for this problem because your body can’t fight off your infection without professional help.

Furthermore, if an infection has spread to the middle of a tooth, you might need root canal therapy. However, please know that most patients who have had root canal therapy say it isn’t any worse than having a cavity filled. If you decide to avoid having root canal therapy, your tooth might eventually die and infection might spread, leading to an abscess.

However, unlike an infection, your body may be able to fight off an abscess temporarily. Sadly, since your infection won’t fade on its own, your body could eventually fail to hold off your abscess. Unfortunately, abscesses can be quite painful. If you do have an abscess, you could experience sore, swollen gums. A painful lump could also appear. Fortunately, there are several treatments that can help you avoid an infection and, consequently, an abscess. We suggest setting up an appointment with us once every six months. You should also brush and floss every day.
